Dobrica Cosic Former Serbian President “We lie to deceive ourselves, to console others; we lie for mercy, we lie to fight fear, to encourage ourselves, to hide our and somebody else’s misery. We lie for love and honesty. We lie because of freedom. Lying ie is the trait of our patriotism and the proof of our innate smartness. We lie creatively, imaginatively, inventively.”

On March 22, 2004, as the Serbs were commemorating the 200th anniversary of the first Serb uprising against the Ottoman empire under the direction of Karađorđe, I heard Adem Demaqi on Radio Free Europe in Serbian reminding Oliver Ivanović, a Serb from Kosovo, that the Serbs too were "separatists" from the Ottoman empire:
"Why did you die for your own independence, why do you celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the first Serbian uprising as the jubilee for the creation of the Serbian state? That which you have, you think that the others don't need. Wait a minute, if you please, we too need liberty."
(Zašto ste ginuli za svoju nezavisnost, zašto slavite dvestotu godišnju Prvog srpskog ustanka kao jubilej stvaranja srpske države. Ono što vi imate, mislite da drugima ne treba. Čekajte, molim vas lepo, i nama treba sloboda.

Adem Demaqi speaks good Serbian, (except for the accents), as all the sounds of the Serbian language exist in Albanian.
